SLAJEC announces winner of Northern Region Bye-Election

On Saturday, 30th July, 2022, the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists Electoral Commission -(SLAJEC) declared Mr. Mohamed Mansaray as the new Financial Secretary of SLAJ North.

He succeeds Madam Fatmata Simbay who’s the region’s new vice chairperson.


Mr. Mansaray’s declaration according to SLAJEC is “In exercise of the powers conferred upon it by the Revised SLAJ Constitution of 2014, and the successfully completion of the Northern Region Bye-Election on Saturday, 30th July, 2022 in Makeni.

The Commission stayed in a Saturday release that it received two nominations within the one-week nomination period that was declared from 19th to the 25th July, 2022 following a letter from the Northern Region Secretariat.

And that no polling was conducted because there was only one candidate qualified to contest for the position of Financial Secretary in the regional executive. The other nominee Mrs. Mariama Mercy Bangura was disqualified on eligibility grounds after she was petitioned.”

Thus, SLAJEC Chief Electoral Commissioner Madam Zainab Iyamide Joaque in exercise of the powers conferred on her by Article 12 of the SLAJ Constitution of 2014, declared former SLAJ North Publicity Secretary and SWASAL North Vice Chairman Mr. Mohamed Mansaray duly elected unopposed as Financial Secretary of the Northern Region Executive of SLAJ.

Meanwhile, SLAJEC has opened a seven days window for any member of SLAJ wishing to challenge the validity of the election to do so.

Makeni Medical Mission Brings Hope and Healing to Bombali District
