Does President Bio Keep Scared Cows In His Shed?

By: Abdulai Mansaray Long after President Maada Bio, his SLPP Party and government would have vacated the seat of power, historians would go to work; and his government would be remembered for many things.   His government would be remembered as one that took the reigns of power from an APC party, and boldly declared that it inherited near empty coffers. It will be remembered as the party that took an oath and swore blind to fight and rid the country of corruption.  Among other things like strengthening the muscle of the ACC and conceiving the birth of another Commission of Inquiry, plugging the leakages has since become the trademark of his tenure.  Fighting corruption, especially in the context of an African country; where corruption is so entrenched that any attempt to fight against it may appear a treasonable offence, is a tough ask.  It is therefore not surprising that Bio’s pledge to fight corruption has placed his government under more scrutiny than ever.  No one is pretending t...

NRM and APC: the forces of change versus the forces of continuity.

Ibrahim Jalloh - (Jallomy) "It started small, it grew big and has grown bigger". These were the words of an inside political analyst in the APC describing the obvious conflict on reforms. The political definition of NRM is not outside the political dictionary of the APC.  In a contextual sense, NRM is an Anchorage of a group of politicians within the APC seeking internal reforms in a much sustained and productively aggressive manner.  In some sense, NRM represents the voice of the young generation sufficiently poised and motivated to drive reforms in the APC.  The APC as a party in totality is not in conflict with NRM but rather a segment of the APC that combines characters of the old generation and the current leadership cadre of the party. Put in a clearer context, it is a conflict between the old and young generations, forces of continuity and change,  chronic status symbols and desperate elements of a new era, assumed political ownership and aggressive denial to wrongful ...

Elitist Deception

By: Ibrahim Jalloh - (Jallomy) akempi@yahoo.com Ignorance is a major barrier to the self-realization and growth of a nation. In a country deeply saddled by chronic and seemingly unredeemable poverty, education and the position of educated elites to mobilize the citizenry and open corridors of conscientization and mass sensitization are of absolute necessity.  In a most aggressive form of ironical situations, the educated elites are extremely out of tune with contemporary happenings and basic processes of state governance.  Regrettably, those educated elites who understand the processes of governance and can interpret and provide the required and appropriate civic education to the masses are in a chronic mode of self-deception. A case in point is the issue of the recently released 2018 Audit Report by the Auditor General of the Republic of Sierra Leone.  The mass awakening to the audit report and the corresponding high interest and debate around the audit report are solid indicators of ...
