Holy Spirit Hospital: a pivotal point for heightened medical alertness

By: Ibrahim Jalloh - (Jallomy) The National medical state of preparedness to combat the Corona Virus is not only amazing but reassuring.  A visit at the Catholic owned and managed Holy Spirit Hospital in the North East Regional capital of Makeni city crowns the extent of reliability and dependability on the heightened state of medical preparedness to combat the global pandemic. Holy Spirit is a medical miracle. It started as a small clinic in a room and parlour in the Masuba Parish building to what it has become today, a giant and full blown medical center. The secret behind this is the untiring and passionate pioneering efforts of a devout young Catholic professional, Dr. Patrick Turay. Dr. Turay is incredibly phenomenal and has achieved a significant milestone in the medical landscape of not only Sierra Leone but in Africa South of the Sahara. We hope that here will be a learning point.

Inclusive and encompassing approach in stemming the tide of Corona Virus: a remarkable show of political leadership

By: Ibrahim Jalloh - (Jallomy) Sierra Leone is said to be polarized and/or divisive in many ways. However, whenever the essence and fabric of our society is threatened or when we are on the brink, we are quick and smart to congregate and fight the common cause or common enemy. The roaring Corona Virus is Scarry! We must be prepared and Concerned. We must not be in panic. We must not be prophets of doom or resigned to fate. Sierra Leone is battle tested and combat ready for the onslaught. We have the experience, institutional memory and corresponding structures. We need to grapple with, reconfigure the mindset and engineer the attitudes. Perhaps the greatest strength in this business is the resounding political will demonstrated by the president and the fact of him leading the Social Mobilization efforts. Just yesterday, a meeting was convened that was very inclusive and incorporating. We saw people like Paolo Conteh and Steve Ngauja on the table sharing their knowledge, experience and...

Disturbing snail space Civil works in the Makeni Central Lorry park

By: Ibrahim Jalloh - (Jallomy) The Makeni City Council (MCC) ordered commercial vehicles and business entities to leave the park area for the purpose of upgrading the park. Two weeks were given as the duration of the work. Regrettably, a week plus few days have elapsed with no significant work done. Drivers and business people in the park are completely frustrated and their livelihoods threatened.  Few years ago, drivers and traders were asked out of the park for similar reason but after two weeks they were asked to return to the park with no work done. This was disrespectful and insulting.  We urge MCC to double their efforts as the affected persons are running out of patience.

The moment of Truth: Information Minister decentralizing the decentralization process

By: Ibrahim Jalloh – (Jallomy) The myth of exclusively colonizing government Press Conferences in the air conditioned offices in Freetown, was aggressively overthrown by the current Minister of Information and Communication, Mohamed Rahman Swarray. Evidently, Minister Swarray has proven to be one of the most efficient and effective minister in the current regime of President Bio. Swarray has a diplomatic and professional way of relating with the public in articulating government policy direction and the overall processes of state governance. That said, Minister Swarray has a characteristic way of being brutal and ruthless with the truth. The second decentralized Press Conference since president Bio came to power was held in Makeni yesterday at the averagely furnished Makeni City Council hall. The key objective was to relay government actions, processes and corresponding challenges. A window of opportunity was opened for direct feedback from functionaries in the media. T...
