Sellas Tetteh Tesvi in action with Leone Stars
After six months in charge, Ghanaian born, Sellas Tetteh, has resigned as Head coach of Sierra Leone’s national A’ Men’s football team (Leone Stars), citing personal reasons.

Tetteh on the 20th August 2019 was appointed on a 3-year-6-month contract to replace former care taker Coach John Keister, who was axed by the Sierra Leone Football Association in July 2019, but the friendly technician has give up the position in less than a year.

“We regret this great loss of one of Africa’s most iconic football hero who tendered his resignation letter on 11th March 2020, Sellas Tetteh noted that he is quitting his charges as Head coach of our National A’ Men’s football team (Leone Stars) as a result of personal reasons, the FA’s president and Executive Committee at the same time as acknowledging his decision.

“The Sierra Leone Football Association wishes the 2019 U-20 World cup winning coach great success in his future endeavors” SLFA adds while they remain tight lipped about who succeeds Mr. Teivi as Leone Stars Head coach ahead of their AFCON double header qualifier against the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

The experienced Ghanaian born was on his second spell as Leone stars Head coach after serving as caretaker coach in 2015-2016. He played 7-games, earned 3-Wins, and 3-Draws and only lost 1-0 to Chad and three days later beat Chad 2-1 in 2015.

Sierra Leone took part in both the 2017 AFCON and FIFA 2018 World cup group stage qualifiers and preliminaries for Leone Stars, grip the nation’s ranking in Africa and the World until the ‘Ebola outbreak’ which improvised the football loving country from hosting its remaining group matches, and the Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire 1-1 draw left football lovers of the country disappointed.

Tetteh was awarded a 3-years-6-Month contract and was warmly welcomed by Sierra Leonean with hopes high to qualify but after his aggregate 3-2 loss to Liberia in August 2019, when he guided the team to race in the 2022 FIFA World cup prelims finally buried the country’s previous hope for a World Cup debut.

Tetteh after failing to hit his first target to progress to the 2022 FIFA World cup group stage remained optimistic and assured Sierra Leoneans that “the feature is bright and that he will do his best to qualify the nation to the 2021 Africa Cup of Nation to make way for a third AFCON return since 1996” but received huge criticisms from supporters of Leone Stars after he shared spell with Lesotho at home and lost 1-0 to Benin on November 13 and 17 last year respectively.
