EBKSUT PRO Cecilia Renner: Elites should not be cleaved to promoting Tribalism otherwise Sierra Leone will not enjoy lasting peace

By: Alusine Rehme Wilson

Cecilia Renner, the Public Relations Officer of the Ernest Bai Koroma University-(EBKUST) has warned educated Sierra Leoneans to desist from the act of promoting Tribalism which she says "will deter the enjoyment of lasting peace in Sierra Leone.”

She was speaking to AWE-Media.SL on Tuesday, 28th June, 2022 after taking part in a day’s Anti-Tribalism dialogue organized by renowned Civil Society Organization HEAL Salone for Students and Staff of the Ernest Bai Koroma University-(EBKUST) Makeni Campus, representatives of Civil Society Organization and other key stakeholders in Makeni city, Bombali District, Northeastern Sierra Leone.

“I’m a living example of one that has been hunted countless times by tribalism promoters, an experience I could best as a thorn in my flesh,” she explained.

She continued saying that, “It is only in Sierra Leone where educated people can ignore their titles in society, takeoff their academic gowns and venture into political arguments centered on tribalism acquisitions which have most times ignited a number of meaningless fights and nurtured grievances amongst us as Sierra Leonean.

“Such occurrences are tantamount to ignite civil unrest in the land that we love which some of us that went through the countless hurdles during the civil war in Sierra Leone are not ready for, the reason I’m imploring on all elites in our country not to be cleaved to promoting Tribalism otherwise we will not enjoy lasting peace, she stressed.

By: Abdulrahman Barrie The U17 football teams from Sierra Leone, Guinea, and Guinea Bissau have been disqualified from the 2024 U17 African Cup of Nations competition in Senegal after failing the mandatory MRI test scans. These scans, which determine the age of the players, revealed discrepancies that led to their removal from the tournament. The disqualification follows changes to Article 27.4 of the U17 Africa Cup of Nations regulations, which have tightened the criteria and enforcement of age verification measures. The updated rules stipulate that if a team has more than four players deemed ineligible after the MRI eligibility test, the entire team will be disqualified. The MRI tests, used to enforce age restrictions in youth competitions, are crucial for ensuring fairness. Unfortunately, the teams from these three nations did not meet the age criteria, resulting in their disqualification. This decision has come as a significant disappointment for the young players and their fans, w...
