SLAJ announces Masters of Ceremony for Annual National Media Awards 2023

The Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) has announced Mr. Umaro Fofana and Mrs. Asmaa James as Masters of Ceremony (MC) for its anticipated Annual National Media Awards 2023 underway at the Bintumani International Conference at 6:00 PM on Saturday, March 2.

The announcement of both MCs was made on Thursday evening via the official social media handles and platforms of SLAJ igniting reactions from both members of the public and SLAJ members.

Both MCs announced are no strangers to the microphone, Mr. Umaro Fofana, a former president of SLAJ, owner of Politico Newspaper and Freelance journalist who recently moderated a high level accountability dialogue event organized by local Non-Governmental Organization SEND-Sierra Leone will be teaming up with Mrs. Asmaa James, a former President of Women in the Media Sierra Leone (WIMSAL), now Station Manager at Sierra Leone’s first female owned local network Rise Radio who has moderated other high profile events including the 2023 Annual President Media Cocktail.

The pairing of the former SLAJ and WIMSAL National Presidents has been described by SLAJ’s National Vice President Mr. Sahr James Bangah as “a remarkable show of the association’s commitment towards promoting Gender Equality, Women’s Empowerment, and Equality in the county’s media space.”

SLAJ has since been accepting entries for 17 distinct categories of the awards manually and electronically at all SLAJ offices nationwide and via email from all registered, practicing, and paid-up members of SLAJ until 31st January 31 this year, when the submission deadline set by the National Media Awards Committee 2023 elapsed.

The call for entries for the awards was made via press releases signed by the SLAJ National Secretary General Mr. Alhaji Manika Kamara. 

According to SLAJ, all entries submitted are being reviewed by a panel of independent judges and a report has been submitted to the SLAJ Annual National Media Awards Committee.

In another development, SLAJ has announced the United Bank of Africa (UBA) and Africell Sierra Leone as co-sponsors of the Annual National Media Awards 2023 organized to celebrate excellence journalism in Sierra Leone across various fields including Arts, Culture & Tourism Reporting, Court, Environmental, Education, Corruption, COVID-19, 2023 Elections Reporting, Gender Issues, Human Rights, Investigative, Politics, Sports, Economic & Financial Reporting.

Makeni Medical Mission Brings Hope and Healing to Bombali District

Sierra Leone, Two other Nations disqualified from AFCON 2024 U17 Qualifiers
