AFOJA Frowns at Attack on Nigerian Journalists



The African Football Journalists Association (AFOJA) hereby express total sadness and grief at the situation in Nigeria where seven crew members from SuperSport were abducted on the road, en route to cover the game of the AFCON qualifier between Nigeria and Libya in Uyo on 11 October.

Even more tragic was the fact that one of the seven was actually shot and killed by the abductors in the incident.

In a statement by the leadership of AFOJA, signed by Executive Secretary Nuhu Adams, such sad occurrence is very worrying as it means that the safety of our colleagues is at high risk in the innocent discharge of their regular duties.

‘We decry this barbaric act that violated the safety of our colleagues and hope the authorities in high risk countries will take note and act on ensuring the safety of professionals whose main motivation was to bring the game we all enjoy to the screens and pages of viewers and readers to enjoy.

‘We commiserate with the family of the deceased. No words can explain or justify what has happened so we can only express our sympathy and pray that his soul rests in peace’.

Makeni Medical Mission Brings Hope and Healing to Bombali District
