The Sierra Leone Taekwondo Association is gearing up for an exciting event as they prepare to welcome two foreign-based Taekwondo players from the United States, accompanied by their coach, for a week-long engagement from January 15th to 22nd, 2025.
The visit is part of an initiative to inspire and elevate the local Taekwondo community by sharing advanced techniques and fostering international cooperation.
The delegation will be visiting Tintafor, Lungi, engaging with local athletes and participating in training sessions designed to enhance skill levels and promote the sport within the region.
In addition to this high-profile visit, the Association is organizing National Trials on January 21st, 2025, at the Saint Augustine Agricultural Junior Secondary School in Tintafor, Lungi.
This event is a critical opportunity for local Taekwondo practitioners to demonstrate their prowess and vie for selection in upcoming national and international competitions. The trials are expected to attract the best talent from across Sierra Leone, providing a platform for athletes to showcase their abilities and compete at the highest level.
Coach Alfred Karefa Smart, the Technical Director for the Northwest Region, has expressed enthusiasm about the upcoming events. "Hosting these foreign-based players is a tremendous opportunity for our athletes to learn new techniques and build connections within the global Taekwondo community," Coach Smart stated.
He encouraged all local athletes to participate actively, highlighting the potential for cultural exchange and the benefits of international collaboration.
The Sierra Leone Taekwondo Association views this engagement as a pivotal moment for the sport in the country. By uniting local and international athletes, the Association aims to foster a spirit of camaraderie and mutual respect, ultimately raising the profile of Taekwondo in Sierra Leone.
