Sierra Leone Drawn in Group C for 2025 AFCON U20

In an exciting development, the draw ceremony for the 2025 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations U20 was held on Thursday at the CAF headquarters in Cairo, Egypt.

Sierra Leone has been drawn in Group C alongside strong contenders Senegal, Zambia, and Kenya.

Group C features two countries from the WAFU A confederation, Sierra Leone and Senegal.

The anticipation is palpable as these teams prepare to face each other once again. It is noteworthy that Senegal U20 recently triumphed over Sierra Leone in the WAFU A U20 finals in an intense grand finale.

Senegal enters the tournament as the defending champions of AFCON U20, adding to the competitive spirit of the group.

Representing the COSAFA confederation, Zambia is another formidable force. Zambia has a storied history in the U20 youth tournaments, having participated in 1999, 2007, and 2017.

Notably, they hosted and won the 2017 edition. In the 2024 qualifiers, Zambia reached the grand final but were defeated by South Africa with a score of 2-0.

Kenya U20, making their tournament debut alongside Sierra Leone, represents the CECAFA confederation.

The Rising Stars showcased their prowess in the 2024 U20 qualifiers, cruising past Burundi 4-0 before losing to Tanzania 2-1 in the finals.

The Shooting Stars of Sierra Leone are currently undergoing intensive training in preparation for this prestigious tournament.

Coach Mohamed Lamin Kamara and his technical staff are optimistic and are putting in the required energy to solidify the team's performance.

The AFCON U20 tournament will be hosted in Ivory Coast from April 28 to May 18, 2025.

Sierra Leone, Two other Nations disqualified from AFCON 2024 U17 Qualifiers

By: Abdulrahman Barrie The U17 football teams from Sierra Leone, Guinea, and Guinea Bissau have been disqualified from the 2024 U17 African Cup of Nations competition in Senegal after failing the mandatory MRI test scans. These scans, which determine the age of the players, revealed discrepancies that led to their removal from the tournament. The disqualification follows changes to Article 27.4 of the U17 Africa Cup of Nations regulations, which have tightened the criteria and enforcement of age verification measures. The updated rules stipulate that if a team has more than four players deemed ineligible after the MRI eligibility test, the entire team will be disqualified. The MRI tests, used to enforce age restrictions in youth competitions, are crucial for ensuring fairness. Unfortunately, the teams from these three nations did not meet the age criteria, resulting in their disqualification.
