Mena Queens Gear-up for First Home Game with New Head Coach Hassan "Zenette" Mansaray

By: Alusine Rehme Wilson

Mena Queens Football Club of Makeni, under their new head coach Hassan Malik "Zenette" Mansaray, is gearing up for their first home game on Sunday, May 11, at Wusum Stadium.

They will be facing Vem Buck Football Club, a team fighting against relegation, in match day 16 of the 2024/25 Sierra Leone Women’s Premier League.

The said match would be Mansaray’s fourth fixture since he took the reins as head coach of Mena Queens alongside joined the club's new Technical Director, Abdul "German" Bangura, who succeeds Alusine "Abega" Conteh in this position.

So far, coach Mansaray has made an impressive impact, leading Mena Queens to three remarkable away matches, achieving victories against Sierra Leone Police (1-4), Koya Queens (2-4), and a draw with Mogbwemo Queens (2-2).

Deservedly, his team collected seven points out of a possible nine from their last three games, instilling a winning spirit within the squad and propelling the club from eighth to fifth place in the standings, currently boasting 22 points, though still 17 points behind the table-toppers, Mogbwemo Queens.

With such a strong start to his tenure, Mansaray aims for a third consecutive win against struggling Vem Buck Football Club, who sit at the bottom of the league table with only five points from 15 matches, the lowest record in the ongoing national women's elite championship.

Last weekend, Vem Buck managed a narrow 2-1 victory over league newcomers Rising Queens Football Club of Makeni, and they will be hoping to make it two wins in a row.

But a loss to Mena Queens, however, would further complicate their battle against relegation this season.

Elsewhere, on the same day, Patricia Umu Strikers from Kambia will host Malema Queens from Kenema, while FC Kallon of Freetown and Ram Kamara Football Club from Bo will each take on league champions and current leaders Mogbwemo Queens and Koya Queens from Port Loko district, respectively, in the other match day 16 events of the third season of the Sierra Leone Women’s Premier League, which was established in 2021.

Verdict: Partly True! Senegal is the first African team to beat England, but not the first to score three goals against them. England's all-time head-to-head record shows that they’ve played a whopping 1072 matches against 100 countries, won 615 games, drew 255, and lost 200. Senegal, on the other hand, is one of Africa’s most famous football nations, nicknamed the “Lions of Teranga.” In 2002, ...

Sierra Leone, Two other Nations disqualified from AFCON 2024 U17 Qualifiers

By: Abdulrahman Barrie The U17 football teams from Sierra Leone, Guinea, and Guinea Bissau have been disqualified from the 2024 U17 African Cup of Nations competition in Senegal after failing the mandatory MRI test scans. These scans, which determine the age of the players, revealed discrepancies that led to their removal from the tournament. The disqualification follows changes to Article 27.4 of the U17 Africa Cup of Nations regulations, which have tightened the criteria and enforcement of age verification measures. The updated rules stipulate that if a team has more than four players deemed ineligible after the MRI eligibility test, the entire team will be disqualified. The MRI tests, used to enforce age restrictions in youth competitions, are crucial for ensuring fairness. Unfortunately, the teams from these three nations did not meet the age criteria, resulting in their disqualification. This decision has come as a significant disappointment for the young players and their fans, w...
