SLFA President Babadi Kamara, Mayor of Bo, and Resident Minister Lead 5km Street Child Sierra Leone Marathon

The President of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA), Babadi Kamara, alongside the Mayor of Bo City, Kobba Musa, and the Resident Minister South Chief John Abu, led the 5km Marathon organized by Street Child Sierra Leone as part of its maiden edition in the Bo Chapter.

The event, held on October 25, 2025 attracted hundreds of participants including school pupils, youth groups, and stakeholders, all united in support of child education and empowerment. The leaders' presence added high-level solidarity to the cause, inspiring young runners and boosting the visibility of Street Child’s mission in the Southern region.

Street Child representatives expressed gratitude for the support and emphasized the importance of collective action in transforming children's lives through education and sports.

Following the successful 5km maraton, Mayor of Bo City Koba Musa and Resident Minister South Chief John Abu have jointly called for the event to become an annual fixture.

Speaking after the marathon, the two leaders praised the initiative for promoting child welfare, youth development, and healthy living. 

They highlighted the unifying power of such events and urged Street Child Sierra Leone to institutionalize the marathon as a yearly tradition to continually raise awareness and support for vulnerable children across the country.

They pledged their continued support and called on both public and private partners to collaborate in future editions.

In his statement, the  CEO of the Southern Arena Babadi Kamara expressed his joy for allowing the stadium to serve as both the starting and finishing point of the event.

"I was very happy to give the Southern Arena as a starting point and finishing point of the marathon," he stated, adding that the "edifice is meant for sports and other meaningful events that uplift communities.”

Mr. Kamara further reaffirmed his support for youth empowerment and inclusive development through sport, encouraging more organizations to make use of the facility in promoting positive social change.

Kamara further  highlighted that, the participation of international runners in this year’s event is a clear reflection of the peace and democracy Sierra Leone currently enjoys.

He praised the organisers and sponsors of the marathon for their continued efforts in supporting less privileged children, across remote communities in the country. 

"Their impact goes beyond the finish line. It’s about giving hope and opportunities to those who need it the most," he noted.

Kamara encouraged continued collaboration to make the marathon an annual symbol of unity, sport, and charity.
