Kallon Blend Debutants and Returnees for Sierra Leone's Crucial FIFA Series Tests

By: Alusine Rehme Wilson

Mohamed Kallon, the Head coach of Sierra Leone's senior men's national football team (Leone Stars) has unveiled a refreshed national team squad for the March 2026 FIFA Series friendlies, handing opportunities to a cluster of first-time call-ups while recalling several experienced internationals in a bid to reshape the Leone Stars.

The selection reflects a clear recalibration by Kallon, who is seeking to inject youth, restore competitive balance, and evaluate depth ahead of upcoming continental and World Cup qualifying campaigns.

Among the most notable inclusions are a group of potential debutants including John Thomas Kamara (Jay Tee) and Yayah Kallon, .

In the defense, regular suspects Abdulai Juma Bah, Nathaniel Jalloh, Emmanuel Samadia, Sallieu Tarawalie and Alpha Turay are joined youngester Citta Bah, and Idriss Kanu who have been drafted in as part of what appears to be a long-term rebuilding of the backline. Their elevation signals a shift toward developing a more cohesive and durable defensive unit following periods of inconsistency.

In midfield, Kamil Conteh is poised for a first senior appearance, offering a profile centered on control and ball progression attributes Sierra Leone have been keen to strengthen. Further forward, Samuel Ghandi and Daniel Kanu add fresh attacking options, underlining a push to expand the team’s goal-scoring threat.

Alongside the new faces, Kallon has reinstated several established players who had been absent from recent squads including skipper Mustapha Bundu whose return from injury is expected to bolster the team’s attacking width and pace, while Sullay Borbor Kaikai provides additional creativity and experience in advanced areas.

Midfield stability is reinforced by the recalls of Saidu Fofanah and Kwame Quee, both of whom bring familiarity with the international stage and are likely to play key roles in integrating newer players into the system.

However, a core of regulars, including Alhassan Koroma, Santigie Fornah, and Amadou Bakayoko, are retained ensuring continuity as the team transitions.

Without a doubt, coach Kallon’s latest selection underscores a strategic balance between immediate competitiveness and long-term development.

And with the FIFA Series offering a controlled environment for experimentation, the fixtures are expected to serve as a critical assessment platform for both emerging and returning players.

While officially classified as friendlies, the upcoming matches carry significant weight as Sierra Leone continue to build toward a more consistent and competitive presence on the international stage.
