‼️Wusum Stadium Fence Suffers Second Collapse

By: Alusine Rehme Wilson – (AR-Wilson)✍🏾

One of the oldest mini stadium in the country: Wusum Stadium that has been up and running since the 1990s fence has on the 14th May 2019 suffered a second collapse due to it age long dilapidated status.

The Prestigious Wusum Mini Stadium that is situated in the heartbeat of the northeast region and district headquarters: Makeni City, in the Bombali District for over two and half decades now, has been of immense use to the people of the North and the entire country by extension.

Sources indicates that Wusum mini stadium, since the 1990 in the notable days of President Joseph Saidu Momoh, has benefited from successive interventions of huge financial and moral support from well wishers, Politicians, sports followers and other Philanthropists in the country but its current state seem worrisome as voiced by journalists, sports followers and other Sierra Leoneans.

It is also clear that on successive occasions the stadium raises fund from the general public which is directed to the stadium management committee under the supervision of the regional and district football associations but yet rehabilitating the field to the satisfaction of the majority has been very evident.

Two years ago a whooping sum of about 300Million Leones was given to the Northern Region Football Association (NRFA) for the rehabilitation of the mini stadium’s dressing room.

The NRFA’s Chairman Brima Jalloh, who according to interviews conducted by leading sport Presenters of Radio Stations in the Makeni city has it that he spearheaded the rehabilitation process and thus completed the project.

The same dressing room after its rehabilitation experienced woeful leakages from its roof during the raining season, which led to so many calls from some Sport Journalists that was directed to football authorities to look into but such concerns were given a blind eye.

About seven months ago, some parts of the Wusum mini stadium fence experienced it first collapse which raised alarms and was quickly rebuilt, but since May 14 this year, when the stadium suffered a second collapse as a result of poor rehabilitation work with millions of Leones spent on it over the years without no proper documentation and account to the general public, football followers, Journalists has raised alarms and follow ups made by this medium to some members of the Stadium Management Committee and others concern, on their plans to address the issue but after some grumbling, one of the its member promised of rebuilding the collapsed side of the fence on Monday 20th May 2019, which became a white elephant.

What is more worrying about this second collapse is the fact that the field management committee and NRFA are somehow giving blind eyes to the situation even when there is an ongoing Football Ramadan Tournament which is powered by the Bombali District Football Association (BDFA) and gates takings are received from fans on daily basis since the start of the league.

Nonetheless, at a time like this when the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) which is headed by Brima Manzola Kamara as Acting President is on a revamp of the country’s football, the fall of some parts of the Wusum stadium fence is seen by many football followers and pundits to be an issue that needs utmost attention for prompt action.
