WAFU Tournament in Sierra Leone Underway

The draw for the Zone-A West Africa Football Union (WAFU), Women’s championship 2020 took place on Saturday night, February 8 at the prestigious Radisson Blu Hotel in Freetown, with eight confirmed participating nations divided into two groups.


Sierra Leone, the host nation of this maiden edition has confirmed the two provincial cities of Bo and Makeni, the second and third largest cities in the country as the venues where the games will be played from while the final will be played at the country’s main stadium in Freetown.

Meanwhile, group-A matches will be played at the Bo mini stadium in the southern city of Bo while group-B matches will take place at the Makeni sports complex in the northern city of Makeni.

Groups:
Group A: Sierra Leone, Cape Verde, Senegal, Guinea
Group B: Mali, Gambia, Liberia, Guinea Bissau

WAFU Secretary General, Jammeh E.K Bojang was assisted by the Vice President one of the Sierra Leone Football Association, Brima Manzola Kamara and former Sierra Leone international and women’s senior football team captain, Musu “Pele” Kamara to successfully conducted the draw ahead of the median edition of the competition which has been confirmed to commence from February 25 to March 7 this year.

The draw reveals a replica of the 2019 Male WAFU Under-20 grouping where eight West African countries will face each other on a reverse fixture with the exception of Mauritanian the ninth, who are yet to confirm their participation in the championship.
