Rising Queens retains third Starburst Park Equal Opportunity Trophy

By: Alusine Rehme Wilson  Impressively, Rising Queens Football Club of Makeni pummeled their Konsho Queens Football Club counterparts 2-0 in the grand final of the Starburst Park Equal Opportunity Championship 5th edition to clinch their 3rd title. On the road to lifting their 3rd Starburst Park Equal Opportunity trophy, Rising Queens shared the spoils in a goalless tournament opener, proceeded and dismantled tournament debutants and returnees Area Queens and Malimba Queens 6-0 and 4-0 respectively. The successive victories helped them to book a date with Konsho Queens who they eventually defeated for the second time in the same stage of the monthly female tournament’s grand finals. Woman married to a Christian man converts to Islam

While Introducing the new convert to the Jamaat(worshippers) Sheik Gibril Conteh, the Chief Imam of Masjid Sobereen narrates that the new convert is legally weeded to a Christian man who has backed her wife’s decision to join Islam after she briefed him about how she has been repeatedly  directed in dreams to switch religion. Fuel Pump Price reduces to 19 Leones

By: Alusine Rehme Wilson  Effective Friday, 29th July, 2022 the pump price of all petroleum products in Sierra Leone now stands at 19 Leones per liter, according to a latest joint adjustment of the commodity  price by the Petroleum Regulatory Authority-(PRA) and partners. PRA and partners which includes the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Trade and Industry, and the Oil Marketing Companies met and resolved to announce a second price decrease within 11 days after it earlier reduced the same products prices from Le 22 to 20 Leones on July 18, this year. However, the main factor the reduction of the fuel pump prices nationwide according to PRA reflects on the movement in international refined petroleum product prices for petrol and diesel.

Born & Raised Academy unveils youth teams

By: Alusine Rehme Wilson For the first-time since it commenced full fledged operations as a football academy in Makeni City, Born and Raised Academy has unveiled its U-12 and and U-14 youth teams. Both teams were unveiled at the premises of the academy located near the EBKUST-Makeni University College Practicing Field along the Makeni-Magburaka highway last Saturday. During the unveiling, each of the sixteen newly recruited players of the two youth categories were gifted with customized squad kits for the 2022-2023 football season. All thirty-two players, sixteen each for the two youth categories were rationally selected from a pool of other young lads who took part in a month trials with the academy. ONS Opens New Regional Office in Makeni

Over low sales and health hazards: Makeni’s main-market Traders halt daily dues payment “until forsaken waste is cleared”

​ ​ By: Alusine Rehme Wilson  Piles of neglected wastes at the Makeni main market have not only drove away buyers from coming to the market on daily basis for nearly eight weeks now, cutoff the free flow of movements along Campbell Street of both people, motorbikes, cars among others, it has now exposed traders and residents of the area to several health hazards.   Apart from them "being heartbroken, traders say they are at the moment very vexed and will not pay routine market dues any longer until cleanliness is restored in their business center."  Yesterday, I visited the said market with my face mask on to resist the stinking smell the waste is producing, interviewed some of the traders, mostly women about the situation and why they’ve resolved to halt the daily payment of market dues to the Makeni City Council.
