The newly transferred Regional Police Commander South, AIG Brima Kanneh has assured residents under his jurisdiction of quality policing. He assumed office on Monday 1 May 2023, replacing AIG Harold Andrew Michael Charles Hanciles who has gone on his leave to retirement. Addressing pressmen upon his first day in office, AIG Kanneh underscored, he is happy to be in the region and noted that he's fully ready to carry out the force's core constitutional mandate which is to protect lives and property. According to AIG Kanneh, he believes the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) cannot effectively and efficiently carry out its constitutional mandate in isolation but through partnership and collaboration. He informed he is therefore placing his emphasis on community policing and called on members of the public to always help the police with vital information that will aid them in their operations. AIG Kanneh has declared war on lawlessness and all forms of crime and therefore strongly warned all to desist from criminal related offenses as culprits he says will be thoroughly investigated and charged to court without any delay. In manifestation of his strong commitment to clamping down on hardcore criminals, AIG Kanneh registered his first arrest as police officers attached to the Fallah Checkpoint in Bo on Sunday 30 April, 2023 intercepted and arrested four suspects for the alleged possession of huge quantities of illicit drugs. "This is my first arrest that was made yesterday. I can proudly say here that I have a very good operational team that is ready to tackle everything. Whosoever that has been caught with drugs will be charged and sent to court. So I will advise all those thinking themselves of being drug barons, addicts or traffickers to desist forthwith or face the strong arm of the law," he cautioned. AIG Brima Kanneh has also assured residents in the region of providing a watertight security coverage before, during and after the June 24 General Elections. Before being transferred to the region, AIG Kanneh had formally served as ADC to the Vice President of the Republic of Sierra Leone Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh and has also served as the Director of Traffic and Road Safety. Meanwhile, AIG Kanneh has profoundly thanked his predecessor AIG Hanciles for the good job he carried out in the region during his term. He described him as a good and hardworking man whom he had shared over 30 years of working relationship with in the force.

Verdict: Partly True! Senegal is the first African team to beat England, but not the first to score three goals against them. Full Text The England senior men’s national football team, nicknamed the “Three Lions,” played their first match against Scotland in 1872. That match ended goalless but marked the beginning of an intense soccer rivalry between both nations, dubbed the “Auld Enemy.” Since 1872-2025, the England national team has achieved its 1000-game milestone in November 2019 when they played Montenegro at the Wembley Stadium. England's all-time head-to-head record shows that they’ve played a whopping 1072 matches against 100 countries, won 615 games, drew 255, and lost 200. Senegal, on the other hand, is one of Africa’s most famous football nations, nicknamed the “Lions of Teranga.” In 2002, ...

Sierra Leone, Two other Nations disqualified from AFCON 2024 U17 Qualifiers

By: Abdulrahman Barrie The U17 football teams from Sierra Leone, Guinea, and Guinea Bissau have been disqualified from the 2024 U17 African Cup of Nations competition in Senegal after failing the mandatory MRI test scans. These scans, which determine the age of the players, revealed discrepancies that led to their removal from the tournament. The disqualification follows changes to Article 27.4 of the U17 Africa Cup of Nations regulations, which have tightened the criteria and enforcement of age verification measures. The updated rules stipulate that if a team has more than four players deemed ineligible after the MRI eligibility test, the entire team will be disqualified. The MRI tests, used to enforce age restrictions in youth competitions, are crucial for ensuring fairness. Unfortunately, the teams from these three nations did not meet the age criteria, resulting in their disqualification. This decision has come as a significant disappointment for the young players and their fans, w...
