SLAJ Trains North-East Region Female Journalists on Safety and Security in Election Reporting

The training was held on Saturday 10th June, 2023 at Where Else guests house in the Makeni-Kabala highway and was attended by many female journalists from various merdia institutions across the region. EBK-University Makeni Students Strike: “13 hospitalized”

By: Alusine Rehme Wilson Although calm is gradually returning to the Ernest Bai Koroma University of Science and Technology (EBKUST) Makeni Campus after hundreds of students went on the rampage on May 30, demanding that “no student must be barred from writing to their examination,” 13 students remain hospitalized. The strike action was ignited by the university administration stands that students must pay  their complete tuition fees including other charges before writing to their final examination, a notion which the university’s Vice Chancellor and Principal Professor Edwin J.J Momoh say is a best practice and a general policy that cut across universities in Sierra Leone, but the students say most of them have paid at least 75% of their fees but they have not received their university attires while the those in the nursing department are  yet to receive their accreditations and uniforms likewise. Dubawa Sierra Leone Ambassadors set for fact checking, Non-Violence Campaign

By: Alusine Rehme Wilson  Ten Sierra Leonean journalists have been appointed as Brand Ambassadors by leading independent fact-checking agency Dubawa for an upcoming fact checking and non-violence campaign starting on June 5. Based in Bo, Freetown, Kenema, Kono and Makeni, the ten ambassadors included five males and five females working for several electronics, print and online Sierra Leone based media institutions. They will be embarking on a month-long public fact checking and non-violence streets campaigns in their respective locations from June 5 to July 5 this year, according to Dubawa-Sierra Leone Fact-checker and researcher Fayia J. Moseray. Mamadou Saidou Sow prefers Sierra Leone over Guinea
