Bombali District Council IEC Raises Eyebrows on its Monthly Saturday Cleaning…

By: Alusine Rehme Wilson - (AR-Wilson)

After several Months since the reinstitution of the regular Monthly First Saturday cleaning exercise that is observed nationwide as instituted by the President of the Republic of Sierra Leone, His Excellency Retired Brigadier Julius Maada Bio, Bombali District Council’s (BDC) Information Education and Communications Officer (IEC) Alusine Bangura has raised eyebrows on the councils successes and challenges faced so far.

Mr. Bangura made this revelation to Northern Times in an exclusive interview few days after the cleaning exercise for the Month of July, he described the just concluded general cleaning exercise in the Bombali District as a very successful one noting that there was huge citizens turnouts and participation in the whole process despite it was raining cats an dog at some point in time. Before now, this has been one amongst the many challenges that has been poised to the council but the inclusion on the monitoring and the entire process of the Republic of Sierra Leone Arm Forces, the Sierra Leone Police, Media Houses, Youth groups, and other stakeholders within the district has been of help in curbing this abnormality from some residents of the District.

As I speak, the Environment and Social Officer (ESO), has confirmed to us at a stakeholders meeting that there are no more illegal dumpsites within and around the Peri-Urbarn areas of the District as it used to be in previous Months, an accomplishment that was gingered up by our Chief Administrator: Mr. Bockarie Bournie with support from Staff of the council Bangura Emphasized.

The Bombali District Council IEC further explained that despite the little delay that occurred at the NP fuel station in the early hours of the cleaning exercise, which was as a result of the shift of the our sister council MCC from its previous suppliers to ours on that very day, the stakeholders through the council leadership were able to maintain a balance that paved way for one hour extension in the process in ensuring that all waste that was piled on that day was duly collected and deposited at the dumpsite.

So in a whole, I want to commend the people of Bombali District and its environs for their cooperation in the cleaning exercise a spirit I wish they could replicate soon in paying their Taxes and Dues to the council, for these home source revenues backed up with government grants and collaboration with partners.

Verdict: Partly True! Senegal is the first African team to beat England, but not the first to score three goals against them. England's all-time head-to-head record shows that they’ve played a whopping 1072 matches against 100 countries, won 615 games, drew 255, and lost 200. Senegal, on the other hand, is one of Africa’s most famous football nations, nicknamed the “Lions of Teranga.” In 2002, ...

Sierra Leone, Two other Nations disqualified from AFCON 2024 U17 Qualifiers

By: Abdulrahman Barrie The U17 football teams from Sierra Leone, Guinea, and Guinea Bissau have been disqualified from the 2024 U17 African Cup of Nations competition in Senegal after failing the mandatory MRI test scans. These scans, which determine the age of the players, revealed discrepancies that led to their removal from the tournament. The disqualification follows changes to Article 27.4 of the U17 Africa Cup of Nations regulations, which have tightened the criteria and enforcement of age verification measures. The updated rules stipulate that if a team has more than four players deemed ineligible after the MRI eligibility test, the entire team will be disqualified. The MRI tests, used to enforce age restrictions in youth competitions, are crucial for ensuring fairness. Unfortunately, the teams from these three nations did not meet the age criteria, resulting in their disqualification. This decision has come as a significant disappointment for the young players and their fans, w...
