By: Alusine Rehme Wilson

Relegation threatened Wusum Stars of Bombali started the new month juicing with a loud 5-1 home win over Freetown City Football Club in their Match day 21 SLPL clash.

The Makeni based side had recovered from an early defeat to the Freetown victors whose skillful forward Abel Akwgbo put them forward just 13 minutes on.

Seven minutes later the host equalized courtesy of their youngster striker Abdul Bangura whose goal kept both sides conscious of not conceding until after the brake when Wusum Stars midfielder Saymah Kamara struck twice in the 51st and 62nd minute from far range to earn his brace on the hour.

As if a 3-1 lead was not enough to let them return to winning ways following their winless run last Month, the league’s rock bottom side nicknamed as “The Northern Rock” increased their day’s lead to 5-1 after Alhassan Conteh and Abdul Bangura respectively netted in the 70th and 90th minute.

At additional time, the visitors had already loose grip of the encounter but a careless Wusum Stars attack choose fancy over history as they wasted more goal chances.

Reacting to the match, Wusum Stars skipper and experienced defender Paul Kamara described their heavy win as a warning to potential opponents, “we’re back from the season’s struggles, moving forward we’re ready to save our neck from relegation, he assured.”

In all ways FCFC’s caretaker coach Moses Conteh said in a post match interview with AWE-Media.SL that he was “shocked, disappointed and is still pondering over such heavy defeat to a struggling opponent. “My defenders blunders cost us but we’ll not give up at regrouping to bounce back stronger,” he added with a bright smile.
