POLICE INTENSIFY OPERATION “WEED ARM ROBBERS”

Following repeated incidents of armed robbery against the unsuspecting civil populace in Makeni and its immediate environs, the Local Unit Commander, Chief Superintendent of Police Francis Songu, in charge of Makeni Division over the weekend intensified “operation weed armed robbers” in the municipality.

According to the newly posted Operations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police Momoh Dumbuya informed this medium that police has applied several strategies to combat armed robbery within and without the municipality.

He disclosed that strategies developed to combat the high spate of armed robbery included but not limited to erection of snap checkpoints, day and night patrols and redeployment of police personnel to volatile and suspected areas.

The head of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Assistant Superintendent of Police, Jimmy J. Momoh,  revealed that since the reopening of the Makeni Magistrate Court over thirty suspected criminals were arrested and charged to court for various offences and some have been convicted by magistrate Peter Brima Gogra.

He further revealed that the Makeni police will continue with its constitutional mandate of protecting lives and properties and therefore called on stakeholders to cooperate with the Sierra Leone police by giving vital information on unusual and suspicious movements of unknown persons.

Assistant Superintendent of Police, Anthony Ngaiya, in charge of the operations wing of the Sierra Leone police in Makeni assured this medium about police commitment in weeding out armed robbers in the municipality of Makeni and its environs.

He reiterated that he will continue with his spot raidson armed robbers in any prone areas based on intelligence received by the police.
