As a
result of several complaints including road mishaps at night, the Sierra Leone
Road Safety Crops in Makeni have embarked on a successful road operations
wherein vehicles that immediately entered Makeni City with Chinese high
velocity lights are removed, warned or fined.
According
to the Deputy Route commander Alimamy Sesay AKA Marcus, he informed this medium
that they have embarked “on the spot checks” with the rationale to identify and
address several traffic violations such as fixing Chinese high velocity
lights, driving without license, unregistered vehicles, passenger manifest etc.
He
revealed that during the exercise, they have succeeded to arrest hundreds of
artificial Chinese lights placed in front of the vehicles including unlicensed
and unregistered vehicles and motor bikes in and out of the municipality of
Makeni.
Arthur
Fynn, the Acting head of Makeni station explained to this medium that all
arrested vehicles and motor bikes need to go through the right process before
release to their right own.
He
therefore emphases that most of the drivers that fixed Chinese high velocity
lights are not going to received them because their action amount to
lawlessness and a bridge of traffic regulation.
He
maintained that even though their presence is to generate revenue for the
central government but they have a sole mandate to protect lives and properties
and that any action that will undermine this process will be treated
accordingly.
