ENDING THE REIGN OF THE MASQUERADES:

By: Ibrahim Jalloh (Jallomy)✍️ The previous government of former President Koroma suspended the activities and displays of masquerades and Secret Societies across the country on the heels of the March, 2018 elections. The thinking and reasoning for that "Executive Order" were obvious: characteristic mayhem, organized chaos, social disruptions; and in some cases the actual loss of lives associated with masquerades and secret society displays. Heading to the 57th Independence Anniversary, a call for review and lifting of the suspension was made to the police by the Odalay Union, a loose and obviously disoriented and disorganized group. The police, acting on their usual "Intelligence " refused to lift the suspension and as a result all Masquerades and Secret Society groups could not display as was the case in past Independence anniversary celebrations. This outcome was greeted with mixed reactions. Few years ago, I challenged the growing culture of surrendering o...

By: Ibrahim Jalloh (Jallomy) +232 76855510 / +23225286604 The redistricting and dealmalgation of chiefdoms in Sierra Leone addressed a historic question and closed a historic gap. Amidst political tension and traditional stampede, the previous government of Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma was wholesomely forthright in addressing the historic wrongs associated with the amalgamation of chiefdoms in Sierra Leone. The outcome of the redistricting and de-amalgamation program additionally deepened and gave relevance to the decentralization process in Sierra Leone Administrative challenges are, however, emerging around the location of the district Headquarters of the resuscitated districts. Karene district is not new but a resuscitated administrative entity. Similarly, Falaba district e existed before it was clamped down by the Colonial Masters. SUNSET FOR THE APC---THE LONG AWAITED REPORT IS OUT…

An Ibrahim Jalloh (Jallomy's Commentary) The APC Party is in a strategic dilemma. Since the party lost the March 2018 presidential run-off, life in the party has been a chain of disillusionment. The APC Party’s defeat was unpredicted, colossal, shocking and completely shatter. The captain and crew of crash plane could not see reason or respect convention wisdom to abdicate. In their attempt to find meaning and relevance to still hold on the reins, the hurriedly set up a committee of nine with the principal objective to find out the obvious reason for the fall of the party. The committee was staffed with a group of eminent personality that have mostly absented themselves from the major event of Sierra Leone politics. Perhaps the only personality in the committee that is conversant with national politics is Sylvia Blyden who find it extremely difficult to operate within an established order. Already there are rumor of dissention in the committee of nine. This means that collecti...

❗Expanding the Narrative on the theme: ❗️Our Africa, our collective responsibility: Voluntarily taking ownership of our Development Priorities

❗An: Ibrahim Jalloh - (Jallomy's) Commentary... Africa is great but within the bracket of the global family. Africa is characterized by confounding contractions. It is rated and described as the poorest continent but with the greatest potential for the realization of the best in humanity. Africa is home to a wonderful lot of people with global compassion for the human race. The richness of Africa's social capital, mineral endowments, environmental friendliness and extreme natural beauty is unsurpassed. Regrettably, Africans have put themselves in an endless mode of unending complaints of the harrowing colonial past. Slavery, the Slave trade and colonialism were catastrophic barriers to the growth of the continent but perhaps the greatest barrier is Africa's seeming inability to break the chains of the past. Making history a permanent home destroys the motivation for real independence and the freedom for self-determination. Africa's development cannot be imported; ...

❗️The mobile water shops: a lost revenue outlet ❗An Ibrahim Jalloh - (Jallomy's) Commentary...

The sale of filtered and packaged water in the city of Makeni is a resounding business with serious margin of profit and profitability. The suppliers or perhaps wholesalers operate on a mobile market system. They will park the trucks loaded with water at vantage points in the city to do their sales. In essence, it is a mobile logistics and storage system. Regrettably, they are not being taxed by council. Why this is so is difficult to understand. So, I am calling on MCC to immediately institute a tax regime for this category. The culture of tax is in disdain in Sierra Leone. This dates to the days of Bai Bureh. In the days of Bai Bureh, the resistance to pay was on account of the folly of a man paying tax for the hut he builds without external or governmental support. Present day resistance is on account of the limited utilization of tax revenue and the massive corruption in the state. ©: Northern Times Newspaper✍🏾
